r moisture and it is an easy tobacco to light. This reminds me of a stronger Sillems Linea Epoque Antique, but this has the deer tongue herbal note. A few days ago, I received one 2oz tin of this (G.C.) and I put it away. A day later I received about 1.5oz of Crooner (another Deer Tongue infused blend), by C&D, from a youtube creator. So I tried Crooner that evening, in an Old Dominion Dutchman, ... Read More
and fell in love with the taste. This morning I just had to open the tin of G.C. and it too is now loved. So save some of this, and Crooner, for me and my next order. I recommend a light packing of the bowl (more so w/Crooner) and resist the urge to tamp; doing so, lightly, only when necessary. I do prefer the two in both my O.D. Dutchman and my Clarin Canadian clays. The two blends also work well in a Cob, but again, with light tamping. I found them more enjoyable when holding the mouthpiece forward, allowing an open seal of the lips for drawing in fresh air during the draw. Using the tip of my tongue to both grab the flavor and monitor the heat on the intake. I will likely revise my 4.5 Star rating (being my initial impression), on both this and Crooner, to 5 Stars soon. Because I am leaning strongly toward wanting both Gent Caller and Crooner on the daily. With "wanting it around daily" being my standard for me to give up a 5 Star rating. With those I really like and only wanting it from time to time; deserving of a 4 Star rating. Read Less

needs to try it. Some won't like it, but you have to determine that for yourself. The vanilla description is misleading- this blend is very herbal with some sweetness, but I would equate the taste more with mint or even rosemary. I can't wait to take the full measure of this blend and I'm likely to stock up on 5 to 10 tins immediately. Read Less

ly absent. I tried several bowls, but was unable to finish even one of them. I found the taste sickening. It is the only tobacco I've ever tried that was able to ghost a Meerschaum. I brought it to my local pipe club meeting and about half the people thought the tin note was interesting. The other half recoiled in disgust at the smell of it. It might benefit from some aging, but in my case I opted to give it to the fellow at the pipe club who seemed to like the smell the most. Caveat emptor. Read Less

to get any smell off of this, but when I did it hit me. Little Debbie Pecan Pinwheel. When smoking I get a very earthy pecan nut flavor, with a vanilla note with it. Its like walking into a bakery with warm disserts filling the room. I only smoke this in a Missouri Meerschaum Lucky #7. This is a perfect pipe and tobacco pairing. Read Less

This may be the Acme of Deertongue blends. I have tried others in bulk, but this is supreme. The addition of a small amount of Perique adds quite a bit to the flavor and complexity. This is a fine aromatic that leaves a remarkable room note.

Cornell & Diehl always make a good blend and this one really captures the "old" Half & Half blend but, in my opinion, is made with better quality tobacco. The tobaccos themselves are quite decent on their own, although the deer tongue can be a bit harsh, but I think the flavor and room note it provides are well worth it. from this it's hard to pick out just one, but vanilla caramel latte with a dash of cinnamon comes to mind. It came at the right moisture as I didn't dry it out before lighting up my first bowl. Smoked it to the bottom without any relights, just a few tamps here and there. Nice strength, more of a 3 out of a 5 and the Va/per combo just adds the body most aros lack. Not goopy, no bite, but I would probably dedicate a pipe to this, it may or may not ghost your pipe as some of the other blends like Crooner has ghosted a couple of my pipes, but not in a bad way. e. While Deertongue smells similar to vanilla, for me at least it really doesn’t taste like vanilla. Most Vanilla topped/Cased blends to me at least taste like someone shaved a cheap vanilla candle into the blend … nothing like that even remotely happens with Gentleman Caller, just well behaved, wonderful Virginia and a light hand of Burley. The room note is wonderful, compliment evoking completely absent of anything artificial or cloying.
This is a wonderful blend, cool/clean burning, leaving little to no dottle. This performs extremely well in a Corn cob or dedicated briar pipe. When you are looking for a nice semi-aromatic smoke that everyone around you will enjoy, reach for it! Read Less

Great smoke, easy to light with no tongue bite. With the Perique it adds a level of spiciness that isn’t over bearing and to me it has a vanilla taste to it. Very enjoyable blend that I will be investing more into!

Room note is pleasant smell of black pepper and dried straw. Tin was dry to damp. Pleasant all day smoke, with no bite and a bit of spice. A typical aromatic, with a nice peppery taste that increasing as you smoke it.
