Rich, Dark and Made for the Cellar
September 05, 2026

Product: Rattray's Brown Clunee 100g
One of my favorite things about Rattray’s Brown Clunee begins before I even pack the pipe. I recently opened an older tin dated March 2023, and the tin aroma was wonderful! Ripe plum, figs and dark dried fruit. Once lit, those flavors carry beautifully into the smoke, joined by natural Virginia sweetness, earthiness and a gentle touch of spice. The few years of age seem to have rounded everything out nicely. Brown Clunee is thoroughly enjoyable from the first light to the bottom of the bowl, gradually becoming deeper, richer and more integrated while retaining that dark fruit character that I love. Smoking this 2023 tin also convinced me that Brown Clunee is a great candidate for the cellar. I can only imagine how beautifully those Virginias will continue to develop with additional age. I'll definitely be putting some tins away....Read More

Perfection

Product: Rattray's Brown Clunee 100g
Purchased a bag of Brown Clunee and when it arrived I noticed the bag was very thin. A couple of squeezes revealed the tobacco was very dry. This frustrated me a bit but I loaded it up and tried it anyway. WOW. Since this is a broken flake it smoked flawlessly and the taste was fantastic. Been working on it now for a couple of weeks and Brown Clunee has quickly made its way into my top 5 VaPers list. Perfect amount of sweetness and spice but also carries light burley flavor that keeps me going back for more....Read More

Good but not great

Product: Rattray's Brown Clunee 100g
This blend is pretty average for me. It has a sweet raisin smell and is really wet out of the tin. I dried it for about and hour and a half. The burley is very light as well is the perique, this is mostly a VA blend. Smoking pipes has the strengths at 3 I would say more like 2 still a good all day smoke....Read More

Great Blend

Product: Rattray's Brown Clunee 100g
This is a wonderful blend creamy smoke sweeter than expected but just because it’s heavier in VA than expected the perique and Kentucky are great background support. Came in a the right moisture to smoke but 5-10 minutes on a tray doesn’t hurt any.

Mild and mellow,

Product: Rattray's Brown Clunee 100g
Mostly Flue cured Virginia leaf. The burley and dark fired are quite minimal, even to the point that they are barely noticeable. All ingredients make for a mild delight with just the right flavor. Simply scrumptious.
