ied out.
I sampled it for three bowls in a MM Missouri Pride that was previously conditioned, then enjoyed another two bowls in a favorite meerschaum. It’s good. Damn good.

When I opened the bag I said “hey - I know that smell - that’s 965. Leather. Iodine. Salt air. Slight tang. It’s a smell I love. English blends own my heart.
Bowls one two and three ran together. It’s very straightforward with the tang and spice up front. The iodine quality I apply to scotch whiskey and Balkan blends is strong here and I’m all about it. I want to drink this blend.
Oak. Toast. Spice. Heather. Scotch. Peat.
It’s delicious. I think - how is this a 3? So I pull the description and see that it’s a function of average - and there’s just one review. I won’t quarrel with others opinions - I will say my experience couldn’t be more different.
Back to the bowl …
This is a solid damn English that hits all the notes. The smell may have been 965 but the flavor is all over the top of Peterson Balkan Blend. If you like that, try this - for the price I don’t see how it can be beat.
The oily smoke just coats the mouth with that Balkan astringency so perfectly.
I think the burley is here mainly to add smoke , don’t see where it’s adding flavor. But the star of the show, the Perique with the Latakia underpinning it is freaking delicious.
I see it was originally a blend from Atlas. I know there is also an atlas Balkan. Can’t wait to see how that one shakes out. But for now , the Stanhope is premium blend for sure. There will be a pound of this headed my way soon - at minimum.
I need to build a bigger closet.
My rating : 5- this is great - I’m getting a pound minimum next pay day

iue that dominates with its peppery note. There is also an unpleasant soapiness that comes through every time you re-light. After trying in three pipes (Meer, Peterson, Comoy) I'm hoping to salvage with some more Lat or stronger Burley because I really love the look and feel of this blend....Read More
