About This Pipe Tobacco

Sun Bear is one of Cornell & Diehl's most anticipated and sought-after Small Batch releases. This year's Sun Bear Navy Cask builds upon past releases and features a blend of Red and Bright Virginias balanced by choice 2020 Thai and 2018 Turkish Izmir grades. Raw, rum-barrel-aged wildflower honey — matured for a year and accented by silver tequila and elderflower — rounds out the blend and introduces a boozy complexity to the classic Sun Bear profile. The result is a deep, naturally sweet mixture with barrel-aged notes of vanilla, charred oak, and toffee — perfect for smoking out the final days of summer.

Good Tobacco, Bad Marketing Experience

I got an early sample, it's excellent as always. Great tobacco. Hence, the five stars. I'm not spamming.

Now, on to something just as important. The website experience on Drop Day was exceptionally awful. It's usually very bad, but today was the worst yet. Even signing in 30 minutes early, so you could be on the page the very moment the clock turned from 5:59 to 6:00, would not have saved you from being booted into the waiting room for an hour, and then being booted again every time you attempted to complete checkout. Since this happens with every significant drop, and has been for years, it can only be intentional. And that means they don't respect my time. Personally, I'm tired of being treated like a paypig by some faceless corporate monopoly. I don't need this. Let's see how long this review stays up. Mine usually get deleted....Read More

OK, I get that it was available for 4 hours this morning. But I could not log in until the PM and it is gone. 20000 tins in 4 hours? This is just a bunch of people buying for the secondary market, just like good Bourbon is now. Rather than feeding the trolls, why don't you throttle down the take a bit? Like 1 or 2 tins per day per customer? That would spread out the availability for a few days and enable the rest of us to have a chance. How about it Laudisi?...Read More

Went through 2 tins of this new and left 2 back to age. Wish id have gotten more, as I love this blend. Didn't try the other renditions of Sun Bear, so cant compare it to those, but this version is phenomenal. It starts out sweet and bready and the honey really comes through. The sweetness melds perfectly with hints of this light, sour, floral profile. I don't get the rum flavor others have noted, but on the retro hale I get this very slight woody, oak note.
