About This Pipe Tobacco

"A rich and satisfying cut cake comprising sweet, ripe Virginias, nutty Burleys, unflavored toasted black Cavendish, and a generous measure of Perique. A splash of dark rum ties it all together, and adds a bit more sweetness. As you enjoy this slow, clean-burning flake, you'll find hints of cocoa, black walnuts, and dried fruits enhancing complex, natural tobacco goodness. Full on the palate, with a delightful aroma. Enjoy smooth sailing with Windjammer." - Gregory Pease

Fans of G.L. Pease's Virginia-based blends like Haddo's Delight, Barbary Coast, and Fillmore are sure to enjoy this old-school navy flake pipe tobacco. Windjammer combines naturally sweet Virginias and nutty Burleys with a significant percentage of spicy Perique, married together and elevated by a splash of dark rum for a rich, flavorful smoke with notes of cocoa, black walnuts, and dried fruits. Toasted, unsweetened Cavendish serves as flour in a roux, allowing the blend's complex, rich flavor to stick on the palate from charring light to the bottom of the bowl.

A fantastic blend, looked forward to every bowl. Went through the tin pretty quickly, it's all I smoked until the tin was empty. Breakfast and after dinner smoke for me. Tin note was sweet, nutty, and some citrus. Definitely some sweetness on the palate, with chocolate and a creamy nuttiness. Adding more to my cart , so I decided to write this review. Will definitely stay in the cellar...Read More

Product: G. L. Pease Windjammer 2oz
I recently started smoking pipes over the last few months, and I saw that this particular blend came highly reviewed and recommended. I have an affinity for maritime, so the history of this style and the branding appealed to me, so I decided to purchase a 2oz tin.

When I first opened the tin,
the stewed fruits really came through. It was remarkably reminiscent of baking spices and figs with a bit of boozy edge like a fruitcake. I was enticed and intrigued by this, and after looking into the proper way to approach my smoke, I loaded the bowl for the first time.

My first bowl was smoked through a Missouri Meerschaum corncob pipe, and it a fantastic way to enter into the hobby. It was sweet, spicy, and coated the palate well. The smoke was thick, and it burnt well, lasting surprisingly longer than I would have imagined as an uninitiated novice. It was fun to analyze how the character of the bowl changed as it approached its end, and I really enjoyed the molasses notes and the resiliency of the spice.

Since that time, this has been a regular purchase for me. I have bought multiple 2oz tins and have decided I will now move on to the larger containers in the future. Beyond how it smokes on its own, it blends remarkably well with other tobaccos. I have mixed it with other G. L. Pease blends, C&D, Orlick, filler blends, etc.

I would highly recommend this blend to anyone wanting to try pipe tobacco and to anyone else who is more experienced. It has become a favorite of mine and my girlfriend who doesn't smoke, she just appreciates the warm, spicy aroma it fills the room with.

Bit of a learning curve

Product: G. L. Pease Windjammer 2oz
I have a tin of Windjammer with almost 2 years on it. I’ve been smoking it periodically over the last year without much luck, probably due to a lack of experience I’ve read is required for Virginias and VaPers. Today, I had the time to really slow down sip the blend in a large chambered bowl. It paid off. The age of the tobacco may have also played a role. But I was able to savor some of the complexity of the blend: lots of dried fruit, some nuttiness and earth/leather with honey/molasses. I thought I was doomed to pass on this blend after this tin but I’m now really looking forward to getting more out of it and purchasing more to cellar for extended periods....Read More

This Blend was one I can understand describing like wine. I'm usually annoyed when some pompous critique writes about tobacco like it's wine but for this blend, it makes sense. It is unique in its ability to express multiple flavors, unlike any other blends I've had. You will get notes of rum obliviously but also coconut, walnut, and Cocoa. It's smokes very well, there isn't much to complain about, and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites....Read More
