Heavy Clove Taste
March 14, 2025

Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Bosun Plug Bulk
First off, I love cloves. If you don’t like cloves you likely will hate this blend. But for clover lovers this stuff is amazing. It has a very prominent clove taste and room note with floral backgrounds. There is a background natural sweetness from the virginias that is present throughout the bowl. This tobacco has plenty of taste and an extremely pleasant aftertaste. It’s a rich smoke that burns wonderfully to the end leaving a fine grey ash. This is one of my favorite blends. Hopefully smokingpipes gets this back in stock soon. In the meantime I have 1000 grams of it cellaring and may update my review in a year or so to see how it ages. In the meantime it’s a wonderful tobacco right out of the bag....Read More

Drop of quality

Pouch note - fantastic. Room note - heavenly. Taste - extremely mild, almost flat. This tobacco used to be mild to medium, complex rich tobacco notes dancing around on tongue but starting from autumn 2023 G&H started to change tobacco base in it’s blends. Bosun plug fell victim to tobacco base changes. Plug in itself is well made but due to change in tobaccos used to produce tobacco the taste is completely different. Used to be 5 star smoke, now I can only give 2.5 stars...Read More

No soapiness

Product: Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Bosun Plug Bulk
I really dislike the soapy fragrance that comes with some Lakeland blends and I’m not getting it from this plug. I’m smoking it right now as I write and I definitely pick up the geranium and the clove really became apparent in the middle of the bowl but mostly I’m getting great Virginia flavor. Thoroughly enjoying this plug. It arrived a bit on the moist side and you really have to play with it to get it into your pipe but that’s the nature of plugs....Read More
