Mac Baren: Black Ambrosia 16oz Pipe Tobacco

I have been smoking Black Ambrosia for two decades. Occasionally, I try something else but, so far, have always gone back. Happy it exists!

I’m no expert, being a noob and all, but I feel like there’s some wizardry happening here. At first blush it has a very ‘Monte Cristo’ vibe about the aroma and taste. There was a notable thick and creamy oiliness to the smoke. Not having much of an experienced pallet, I have a hard time comparing this to anything else.

Everyone should remember their first taste of pipe tobacco. For me, that first taste was Mac Naren’s Black Ambrosia. It’s been years since I first sampled this but I still remember opening the tin and the figgy blast of fruity cavendish really struck me. The worst thing you can say about this tobacco is it's very similar to Original Choice. Very mild on the tongue, a nice aroma, a little more flavour, and lights and smokes very well. I could see using this as a daily driver.

Smells of dark berries out of the tin. Smokes decent the first couple of times---not particularly flavorful---but over about 2 weeks dries out quickly and is left with a chemical smell and a hot, ashy taste. I ended up throwing the rest out. A waste.

The tin note is similar to Holger Danske Black and Bourbon, but smoked there isn't much going on. It's OK, just rather blah. I'll stick with the Holger Danske.

A friend who is is also a customer here gave me a tin of this, i normally dont smoke black cavendish by itself, the last time i did were in my younger days when i smoked strictly over the counter blends , i still have nightmares invoving Argosy black and borkum riff, this blend is entirely different its blended and cased in such a way that it delivers a cool flavorful smoke with many subtle nuances...Read More

Just a sweet and pleasant smoke. Everyone around me enjoys the room note and I enjoy the subtle sweet flavors. Finished the first tin and bought two more. This isn't going to blow your mind with strong flavors but it is enjoyable.

I was let down on this one. Not much of anything going on here... the tobacco was even dull. I could get past bland or dried out casing, but even the tobacco had little to no flavor. perhaps I got a bad batch, I am a fan of MB tobacco's, and had high hopes for this, but sadly it did nothing for me....Read More

But they just didn’t materialize. Don’t get me wrong. It is not a bad smoke. But it just did’t live up to what I was expecting. The sweetness is there but the flavors are extremely mild. The room not is very nice though. It’s really the saving grace of the blend.
