Brown Twist Sliced... love it as a blender. This is the only pipe tobacco I have smoked that has rattled my nerves in 55 years. The nicotine concentration sublimates the full array of VA qualities and flavors. I have smoked this straight 10-12 times in small bowls but it is much better when blended with another VA to reduce the % nicotine concentration. I blend it with Kendal Gold and/or Bright CR ,,,,even 70% Brown Twist sliced and 30% CR bright works for a strong smoke. Lovely rich VA character with tangy leathery notes. Even takes to a little added perique. When this is blended with other milder sweet VA's, the flavor reminds me of Ashton's old Brindle Flake or some of McClelland's great Virginias....Read More

4th star for being sliced, which removes all the rope prep except drying. Three phase smoke, like a good cigar, but that’s where it falls down. First third you get some Virginia sweetness behind strong spice, and the second third has delightful char, if you like char as I do. But the last third of the bowl has a burnt taste that just dominates all the other flavors. I have to believe the rough, harsh edges will be smoothed out by aging. Very strong as noted. This is flue cured, and fire cured Virginia leaf, probably from Africa. Made into ropes, and cut into thin coins. Please let this dry out quite a bit. This will take a while, but is worth it.
The flavor is beautiful Smokey Virginia that, if puffed slowly, will show you sweetness. High in N, and one can be overwhelmed. Go gently with that good pipe....Read More

I purchased this because it because it was rated as strong and I was looking for a pipe tobacco that could satisfy my nicotine cravings as I transitioned off cigarettes. It's strong alright just not in the way I was hoping. The room odor is overwhelming (and I didn't find it pleasing), event just the unlit tobacco. Best way I can describe it would be that it smells like "wet tree bark", and that also what it taste like.

Secondly it is sold as a coin tobacco but it comes in a bag instead of a tin and when the bag is opened it is more of just a very moist flake. Even after curing it out well beyond necessary the horrible odor and taste remained....Read More
