Wonderful aromatic

Product: Rattray's Year of the Dragon 100g
I got a wonderful initial smell here. Strong notes that reminded me of whiskey and fruit, but not too strong to mask the true scent of the tobacco.
Smoked great.
My 4 star rating is only because my true 5 stars won’t go to aromatic. For a fruity blend, it would be 5 stars in its class!

A Lacklustre Dragon

Product: Rattray's Year of the Dragon 100g
When it arrived in the mail, I was excited as the unsealable tin and its plastic envelope/bag have an excellent smell. Incense, licorice, cherry, vanilla.

The first smoke was straight from the bag, no drying whatsoever. Smoked hot, and my tongue was not happy with me. The only smell I could
manage was tonquin when i shoved my nose into the hot ash. The flavor of burley and wet cardboard was all I had for a taste.

Waited a week, and let a pipe full of this stuff sit inside the unsealed tin for an entire week. The attempt to dry it out did allow me to taste a generic virginia tobacco tone at light up, and when it needed to be tamped down. Rest of the time it was very strong burley and a generic burnt flavor.

With the extra drying time, the room note went into that "10 guys smoked cigars and cigarettes in here last night" vibe.I smoked outside, and I ended up having to clean the kitchen sink with bleach in order to kill the odor in the house from my clothes.

It is an attempt that was let down by tobacco.

Hot but good

Product: Rattray's Year of the Dragon 100g
Burns hot as many other reviewers mention. I find it a very easy and pleasing smoke. A very pleasant smell in the package and a gentle taste. I think, for me, it is a good base case smoke.
The serpent's sour bite

Product: Rattray's Year of the Dragon 100g
The first bowl fresh out the tin did not go well, burned hot and was very bitey. Dumped the bowl and left the tin ajar for awhile to come back to it after some drying out. The following bowls went thusly: Nice subtle vanilla on the initial light up that fades away 1/4 through the bowl. Sometimes get a sense of rhubarb, mostly on the retro if at all. Then the Virginia is bright bright bright and sour sour sour. Super sour. Could never muster through the second half of a bowl on account of the tartness as well as the bite kicking up. I love Rattray's but this is a flop imo. The tin is nice though....Read More

Product: Rattray's Year of the Dragon 100g
Im not an everyday aromatic smoker. I was pleasantly surprised at how I kept reaching back for more of this blend. Not excited about the price of the tin but the tobacco itself was very delicious.
