About This Pipe
Mark Tinsky discovered his passion for pipe making when he worked for local craftsman Jack Weinberger of JHW pipes. Determined to blaze their own path, Mark and his friend Curt Rollar decided to open up a workshop of their own while on a cycling tour around Europe. Following their return to the US, the two established the American Smoking Pipe Co. to create distinctive, stalwart pipes with meticulous attention to detail.
In 1990, Curt Rollar left the business, leaving Mark to craft pipes under his name exclusively. Mark's son Glenn later joined the enterprise, establishing the Tinsky name as a multi-generational workshop. Falling somewhere between classic pipe design and the expressive Freehand movement of the '70s, Mark Tinsky is recognized for muscular renditions of traditional shapes and an array of distinct finishes like his Cabernet smooth and Coral rustication. His grading system ranges from one to four stars, the latter representing his most prestigious work.
