About This Pipe
With a low, forward-canted bowl, this Dublin from Scottie Piersel provides vertical minimalism combined with impressive length, though it isn't as long as her longest "Scottie" pipes. Still, it seems long, given that signature, pencil-thin shank reinforced with stainless steel. As for the bowl, the rim is smooth, save for a kiss of plateau toward the aft, and a concave curve makes for easy loading of tobacco. Of particular interest is the shank-and-stem combination, which presents perhaps the most gradual, elegant, and consistent tapers I've ever seen on a pipe. From the transition all the way through the decorative accent to the colorful stem, the taper maintains perfect gradual reduction, with just a whisper of bend for the stem. Its colors are subdued teal and burnt orange, variegated for extra panache. Overall, it's a composition that would commend itself in any pipe collection, from classics to Freehands, and demonstrates a feat of engineering that is appreciated by pipe smokers around the world.
