About This Pipe
Smokin' Barrel Briars is the work of American artisan Ryan McCawley, whose approach blends elements of Danish and English pipe making with his own evolving style. Largely self-taught, Ryan developed his craft through years of restoration, experimentation, and hands-on work, creating pipes that balance traditional influences with a distinctly personal character.
A handsome take on the Prince, this piece is among the first batch of pipes we've received from Ryan, pairing a graceful profile with an alluring palette of natural hues. The stem is fitted with a push-style mount and joined to a warm horn accent, which adds a subtle point of contrast between the stem and stummel. The bowl is slightly forward-canted, with rounded walls that stand at the forefront of a slender shank that gives the profile a gentle, flowing quality. A light sandblast dresses the stummel, bringing out a wealth of texture while drawing attention to the interplay of growth rings and flame grain along the bowl. The rim is left smooth, providing another point of contrast and a closer look at the briar's natural grain.
