About This Pipe
At 15, William (Bill) Ashton-Taylor began his pipe-making career by signing under Alfred Dunhill. Starting as an intern and affiliated 'tea boy,' Bill retained a keen interest in the craft. Eventually, this sparked the attention of Harry Saigrott who began showing Bill the artistry of pipe making. By 1980, Bill founded Ashton Company, setting a high standard for quality pipe making. Sadly, Bill passed away in 2009, but pipe maker Jimmy Craig proudly carries on the Ashton name. This Dublin is a fine showcase of Craig's Anglo-French design style and impressive silverwork. Up front, the bowl holds the shape's traditional flare and proudly boasts the warm, craggy sandblast of the English marque's Old Church finish. A round shank marries the bowl and pairs to a long, tapering stem of black vulcanite at a band of silver, which provides a flash to the otherwise reserved color palette of this piece.
