About This Pipe

Blending tradition with innovation, Chris Askwith's distinctive style modernizes classic shapes with vibrant color palettes and stylish finishes, an approach that is beautifully showcased in this Cauldron.

The Cauldron shape is one that's readily associated with Italian pipe making, although carvers and marques from other countries have been known to put their own unique spin on the whimsical design. Chris Askwith's interpretation remains true to the shape's origins while incorporating his signature flair. The Cauldron base resembles a plump Apple, cinched gracefully at the waist and flaring upwards into a prominent bowl that exudes an impressive and almost fantastical presence. Subtle cheeking along the transition enhances the bowl's curvaceous profile as it flows into an upturned, rounded shank and a dramatically bent, half-saddle stem. The stummel is finished with a light sandblast that reveals subtle birdseye patterns along the bowl, all beneath a warm auburn stain. To add a bold pop of color to the overall design, Askwith has fitted the piece with a cumberland stem, creating a striking contrast that complements this playful design.
