About This Pipe
Chris Askwith is one of England's few artisan pipe makers. Moreover, he's also a remarkably skilled silversmith and as such, his pipes often feature accents that showcase his prowess for the medium. Accented or not, all of Askwith's pipes speak to his exceptional eye for shaping, with many of them offering modern twists on classic silhouettes. This Prince is one such example, pairing an exceptionally plump yet petite bowl to a lithe, lengthy shank-and-stem arrangement. The juxtaposition of the rotund bowl with the sleek, linear shank and stem is striking yet still highly elegant, as is the finish of this piece. An inky sandblast dresses the stummel, its dark, rugged disposition contrasting strikingly with the pale, ivory-hued stem. Highly contrasted in both form and finish, this Prince is a bold, refreshing take on the shape-chart classic.
