About This Pipe

Carlo Scotti brought the Castello brand to life in the late 1940s, crafting his pipes in the same shadow of the Alps as the likes of Savinelli and the Rovera family. Scotti's workshop would eventually yield the independent workshops of Caminetto and Radice, both founded by former Castello artisans, but the Castello tradition continues today with the neoclassic designs that make northern Italy such an influential player in the industry of pipe making.

The carved Le Dune finish gives this bent Dublin wavy, overlapping "scales" from the plateau-topped rim all the way back to the junction with the stem, with the flat surfaces of briar between the "scales" finished smoothly to allow appreciation of a wealth of flame grain. The bowl is still traditionally shaped for a Dublin — conical, canted forward — and it tapers to an upturned shank that itself falls back to an arcing, tapered stem of black acrylic. The Le Dune finish is an eye-catcher and gives the fingertips plenty to appreciate about this piece, but the grain adds to the experience of beholding and using this pipe, as well as to its great visual intrigue.
