About This Pipe
Italian artisan Claudio Cavicchi boasts over 50 years of pipe-making experience and possesses an uncanny talent for bringing out the very best from a block of briar. His portfolio is full of evocative interpretations of classic shapes, and he is known by many artisans to have some of the best grain in the world, with even his non-graded pipes rivaling the top-tier pieces of other workshops.
This Cherrywood is a lovely example of Cavicchi's work, presenting with a signature look that rests the visual weight of the shape directly under the bowl. The broad base supports thick walls that taper as they rise up toward the rim, the entire build taking on a forward lean that affords this pipe a dynamic posture. The transition is wide and leads to a sinewy, upturned shank joined by a demurely curved saddle stem stem of jet-black acrylic. Dressed in an earthy stain and rugged sandblast, the stummel showcases a wealth of handsome grain, with tight ring grain radiating up the bowl and a basin of birdseye across the smooth rim and broad base.
