About This Pipe
With a background in architecture and industrial design, Greek carver Chris Asteriou brings a rare combination of artistry and technical mastery to every pipe he creates. Whether shaping Anglo-French classics or designing bold, highly sculptural pieces, he demonstrates both deep historical knowledge and boundless creativity. In this Billiard, Asteriou embraces a more traditional mode, yet the piece still radiates the meticulous finishing, lively character, and striking visual appeal that have become his signature.
Although it's a fairly archetypal rendition of the Anglo-French Billiard, this pipe hints at Danish influence in its tapered bowl, which narrows gently from heel to rim. The bowl's contours sit comfortably in the hand, while its subtle cant adds a quiet sense of motion to the otherwise static composition. Gentle cheeking at the transition defines fore from aft, allowing each element of the pipe to be appreciated on its own. Crafted from striking strawberry wood rather than traditional briar, the unique medium's vivid grain is highlighted by a crisp, inky sandblast, its palette beautifully contrasted by a cumberland stem and a silver band at the junction.
