Smooth Blowfish (2025) Tobacco Pipe

Christian Ruetz, an artisan pipe maker from Austria, brings a profound appreciation for nature to his handcrafted creations. He combines organic forms with exceptional engineering in his work. This is our first time receiving pipes from Ruetz, and this Blowfish certainly makes a fantastic first impression.

The Blowfish shape is characteristically organic, and Ruetz's rendition leans heavily into this style. The fluidity of this piece is striking, beginning with the asymmetrical bowl and extending into the shank. Although it is shorter in length, the pipe feels substantial and provides a reassuring grip. Its balanced build showcases a great deal of dynamism, naturally guiding the eye along its contours. The transition between sections is seamless, leading into a shank adorned with wrapped ridgelines. One side of the bowl is expertly carved into a teardrop shape, revealing stunning birdseye grain, while the upper and lower portions display clear cross grain. The opposite side features peaks of plateau, enhancing the organic motif of the overall design.
