About This Pipe
Italian artisan Davide Iafisco draws inspiration from a wide spectrum of pipe-making traditions, most notably Danish, Japanese, and American schools of design. Rather than simply echoing these influences, however, Iafisco distills them through a deeply personal artistic lens, producing pipes that feel both internationally informed and unmistakably his own. His work is defined by a careful balance of technical refinement and sculptural grace, a harmony that is clearly expressed in pieces such as this Rhodesian.
This Rhodesian is a compact, Danish-inspired interpretation of the classic form, distinguished by a fluid sense of motion that runs uninterrupted through the profile. The bowl is broad and stocky, rising from a restrained heel and swelling to a beadline-wrapped waist before tapering gracefully to a neat, well-defined rim. A wide transition follows the bowl, leading into a slender, ovoid shank that extends rearward to meet a gently curved tapered stem. Completing the composition is a lustrous smooth finish that brings vivid flame grain and tightly packed birdseye into sharp relief across the stummel.
