About This Pipe
David Huber started making pipes in 2012 and turned his attention to the craft full-time in 2014. He credits Jeff Gracik and Hans "Former" Nielsen among the artisans who most helped in his development as a pipe maker. This Blowfish from David is fronted by elliptical flanks and a flaring middle that runs the entire length of the bowl and holds much of the chamber. The middle face is narrow at the heel but much wider at the top, holding the flanks together while displaying remarkable ring grain that has been sandblasted and darkly stained for an intriguing effect. The shank is four-sided and gently round on the flanks and bottom, then upturned to present a smooth face that holds a push-style saddle stem of vulcanite with a minute bend back to the bit. It's a fascinating rendition of the Blowfish on David's part, fronted by an intricate bowl that finds each of its faces inextricably linked to the rest of the stummel and backed by a shank that holds up the Blowfish's reputation as a beautifully asymmetrical pipe.
