Another eye-catching design from Il Duca, this Acorn is a highly organic composition rendered in a distinctive palette throughout its impressive length of just under seven inches. A striking juxtaposition runs throughout the design, beginning with the bowl's high-set, broad waist and pointed heel: characteristic features of the shape. From there, the slender shank extends into three knuckles of dark bamboo, adding an organic flourish while creating a pleasing contrast with the substantial, pale-hued bowl. The stem configuration continues the motif, with a vulcanite ferrule complementing the slender, rounded forms of the bamboo. The briar is sandblasted and left unstained, allowing the natural texture of the wood to take center stage, with pronounced ring grain along the flanks of the bowl and patches of birdseye across the rim and underside.
