About This Pipe
Italian artisan Massimiliano Rimensi crafts pipes under the Il Duca name, honoring the historic dukes of his native Ferrara. His work draws from Danish, Italian, and Anglo-French traditions, yet each piece reflects a personal, unmistakable style shaped by his own creative vision.
This paneled bent Egg presents a compelling interplay between structure and fluidity. The faceted bowl introduces a sense of firmness and architectural precision, while the sweeping shank and stem soften the composition with a gentle, flowing cadence. Tall and assertive, the bowl rises from a subtly pronounced heel to a crisp, flat rim, its geometry lending both presence and definition. From a broad transition, the shank extends outward and is lengthened by four knuckles of dark bamboo, which add visual rhythm to the pipe's aft. The bamboo's natural tones provide a seamless bridge between the deep, shadowy sandblast of the stummel and the dark vulcanite saddle stem. The sandblasted finish reveals striking growth rings, imbuing the piece with rich texture and tactile appeal.
