About This Pipe
From what started as a simple hobby of making duck calls from bamboo, Jason Mouton gained experience in woodworking that would eventually help shape his pipe-making career. Based in Gueydan, Louisiana, Jason Mouton boasts a shaping style driven by his keen eye for detail and a passion for studying various artisan works. His pipes, with their compact and muscular builds, reflect a strong American design influence.
This Acorn, however, represents a more lithe and organic expression within Mouton's portfolio. Gracefully bent throughout, it presents a striking silhouette defined by fluid lines and natural curvature. The bowl is bulbous with a high waist and softly domed rim, while the lower walls taper into the form's characteristic heel spur, creating a comfortable and engaging feel in the hand.
A rounded shank flows seamlessly from a broad transition, gently tapering and subtly flaring upward in a gestural sweep. It is paired with a trim saddle stem of black vulcanite, softly bent toward the bit for balance and comfort. Finished in a deep, earthy sandblast, the stummel reveals a captivating grain pattern, with vertical striations intersected by rippling growth rings. A pale accent of fossilized walrus tusk at the junction offers a subtle yet striking contrast, lending this organic piece a refined touch.
