About This Pipe
Jason Mouton has spent almost his entire life in Gueydan, Louisiana, known as the "Duck Capital of America" since 1977. He grew up hunting ducks with his father and as a teenager began learning how to make duck calls, an experience that would give him plenty of time working with lathes before he started making pipes as an adult. Jason made his first pipe in 2018, giving it away as a gift. He sold his second pipe, kept his third for himself, and since then has made a fine name for himself as an artisan pipe maker.
This Lovat from Jason's workshop is an incredibly handsome take on the classic shape, sandblasted across brilliant tendrils of flame grain on the bowl and stained in a delightful golden brown. Birdseye dots the smoothly finished rim of the bowl, which is lightly inflated and caps the particularly muscular walls that surround the chamber. The walls are very lightly tapered to adhere to the typical shape of a Lovat, and the shank is only lightly sandblasted to allow the cross grain and birdseye to shine through while maintaining a relatively smooth touch to the hand. A metallic accent gives the brief vulcanite stem a nice flourish before the shoulders taper into a saddle shape. It's a wonderful, natural offering from the very natural confines of the Louisiana bayou, and one that will appease any fan of Jason's previous work.
