About This Pipe
Rooted in the centuries-old pipe-making tradition of Saint-Claude, La Bruyere reflects the craftsmanship and understated style of artisan Thomas Manzoni. For the past 15 years, Manzoni has worked at Chapuis-Comoy, specializing in pipe assembly for everything from classic shapes to spigots and army mounts, while also developing his own skills as a pipe maker. Trained by Pierre Morel and Bruno Nuttens, his work embraces a contemporary-classic aesthetic, pairing pure, traditional shapes with carefully selected briar, morta, olive wood, and other fine materials, all with an emphasis on creating pipes that smoke as beautifully as they look.
This bent Egg is a handsome piece, balancing the fullness of its bowl with the substantial proportions of its shank. The bowl features the shape's characteristic forward cant, while the shank and stem carry a similar robustness throughout their upward arch. The stummel is dressed in a highly textured sandblast and rich contrast stain, highlighting the briar's overlaying growth rings and flame grain throughout the bowl.
