About This Pipe
Brazilian artisan Luis Lavos boasts a background in graphic design and has demonstrated a passion for woodworking from a young age. With a keen eye for design and a seasoned skill for reading a block of briar, Lavos is able to produce some truly stunning pieces — many of which reveal his affinity for the Danish carving style, in particular. With an architectural silhouette and fine flourishes along the shank-and-stem arrangement, this Stack speaks to Lavos' Danish influences and stands as a testament to his pipe-making prowess.
In classic Stack fashion, the bowl of this pipe towers over the rest of the composition and houses a cavernous chamber within — perfect for long, satisfying smoking sessions. While the bowl towers with a dramatic presence, the width remains quite reserved, and the shaping quite nuanced. There's a subtle curvature to the walls of the bowl, and they demonstrate a slight taper toward the rim, lending the overall form a bit of softness. Out back, an arrow-straight, cylindrical shank wears a beautifully chamfered accent band of Ivorite, which is joined by a sleekly tapered stem of vulcanite with an expansion disc that echoes the flare of the shank. Save for the smooth, burgundy-tinged rim, the stummel wears a deep, smoky sandblast that reveals handsome grain patterns and makes the perfect backdrop for the pale, smooth Ivorite. With such striking shaping and a rich, high-contrast color palette, this offering is sure to stand out from even the most crowded of pipe racks.
