About This Pipe
American artisan Micah Redmond crafts pipes in a style that nicely fuses the smooth lines and easy curves of Danish pipe-making with the more compact musculature often seen in American designs. This Bent Egg is an impressively plump design from Redmond, with thick walls and a hearty bowl that stands as the center of this piece's visual weight. Said bowl stands atop a rounded heel, supporting impressive walls that curve languidly toward the rim, reaching their broadest point at a mid-set waistline set slightly above the transition. This centralized breadth makes for a comfortable presence in hand and ensures the chamber is nicely insulated where the hand rests naturally. A wide transition gives way to a comparatively slim, though by no means slender, shank that lifts gently through its length, flaring subtly near its end to meet a rounded ring of amboyna burl. This ring acts as the junction to an eye-catching saddle stem of vibrant, swirling yellow resin, complete with a dome at the base to enhance the curvature present through much of the stummel. Dressing this pipe is a crisp sandblast and inky stain, revealing fields of textural birdseye across both flanks of the bowl and growth rings rippling through the midsection, making for a texturally engaging composition that's rich with visual contrast.
