About This Pipe
Micah Redmond is often drawn to compact, chubby forms, but this Tomato explores a slightly longer, more streamlined silhouette — though it retains a reassuring sense of substance in hand. The bowl, while comparatively short, is broad and muscular, its thick walls rising from a wide, sturdy heel and tapering in a gentle arc that rounds out the head's profile. A wide transition follows, giving way to an ovoid shank that flares toward the stem. That outward expansion elongates the composition and counterbalances the bowl's faint forward cant, while naturally guiding the eye to a striking saddle stem of swirling black, silver, and white acrylic. A crisp, earth-toned sandblast completes the piece, lending vivid texture to the briar and emphasizing the depth and character of the grain throughout.
