About This Pipe
American artisan Micah Redmond is known for combining the compact, muscular shaping of American pipe making with the soft curves and flowing, organic lines of the Danish style. This Fig Sitter certainly meets that criteria with its concise proportions, plump shaping, and graceful, fluid profile.
When looking at this Fig, the eye is immediately drawn to the uniquely shaped bowl that resembles its namesake fruit: the walls billow out from the narrow heel to the thick, broad rim, lending the overall form a charmingly plump appearance. The heel features a short, spur-like appendage whose face is flat, thus offering a sturdy seat for the composition to rest upon. Out back, the thick shank-and-stem arrangement balances the visual weight of the bowl, and its upturned posture promotes a comfortable clench. Dressed in a smooth, contrast-rich finish of rich chestnut, the stummel showcases a wealth of gorgeous grain: Fields of birdseye decorate the rim as well as the top and underside of the shank, while tight tendrils of flame grain engulf the bowl. The striations of the cumberland stem pair nicely with said grain, and its rich burgundy hue makes a fine complement to the stummel's warm, earthy stain.
