About This Pipe
Between educations formal and informal (six years of study at the Danmarks Designskole for the former, practically growing up in her father and grandfather's workshop for the latter), Nanna Ivarsson has a uniquely impressive background. Backgrounds don't make pipes however, pipemakers do. Fortunately, as a pipemaker Nanna has excelled, taking everything she had the opportunity to learn both formally and informally, and using it to create some of the most beautiful pipes to be found on the planet Earth. The only downside to this is that it means the supply of Nanna Ivarsson pipes is, and probably always will be, absolutely minuscule compared to the demand for them.
So we consider ourselves greatly fortunate.
Sweeping, shapely, buoyant; two out of three of those things might not too uncommonly be seen combined in one shape, but to see all three, and all three in perfect harmony with each other, is something else. It's the something that Nanna created here, by the way, in a design of utter simplicity of line, and cleanness of form — sweep and lift, curve and curvaceousness, and yes, beautiful briar too, all bundled up together into a pipe that proves the old adage that greatest elegance and perfection are found not in what is added, but what is, in the final form, taken away.
