About This Pipe Tobacco
Extravagant is the right word to characterize this mixture. We have revolutionized the traditional old English art of blending. The main ingredient is the finest spicy smoky Latakia. By adding highly aromatic Black Cavendish, this blend becomes smoother. A small portion of Burley gives a slight toasted aroma, and a pinch of bright Virginia brings a subtle sweet note. Mellow, but yet full-bodied aromas of honey and fruit essences result in a unique flavor. This tobacco will surely be a delight.

s less about attacking the tobacco and more about politely suggesting that it burn.
And holy hell.
Silken Black absolutely blew me away this time.
There is a ridiculous amount going on here. You get this soft little touch of Latakia smoke lurking in the background, some gentle spice, dark fruit, citrus, and a subtle cherry note that never turns into cough-syrup territory. There’s also this mysterious boozy quality floating around in there liqueur, cordial, something along those lines along with soft vanilla and a very light honeyed sweetness.
I honestly have a hard time explaining the flavor because every few minutes another note walks into the room.
This definitely leans aromatic to me, but in the most grown-ass-man version of an aromatic imaginable. Nobody dumped cupcake frosting into the tobacco. Nobody assaulted a cherry tree. The toppings are integrated into the actual tobacco flavors instead of sitting on top screaming for attention.
If someone regularly smokes English blends like Quiet Nights, Chelsea Morning, or Meridian and told me they wanted to experiment with crossover blends or dip one cautious toe into aromatics, I would confidently hand them Silken Black.
Because this is exactly the kind of blend that is incredibly easy to screw up.
Too much Latakia and the toppings disappear.
Too much aromatic flavoring and suddenly you're smoking a Yankee Candle.
Silken Black somehow threads the needle.
Smoke. Spice. Fruit. Citrus. Cherry. Vanilla. A little booze. A little honey. Actual tobacco underneath all of it.
And somehow none of them are fighting.
She burns cool. She behaves herself. She has layers. She smells good.
