Haunted Bookshop. It has taken me the longest time to review this tobacco, it is my personal all time favourite - for many reasons. Favorite of m860 and based on a book by Christopher Morley it holds a special place in my heart. How can I love a tobacco so much? When there are plenty more that taste more appealing? I am not a fan of perique tobacco, and it is quite detectable in this blend, although I love burley and the perique really brings out the nuttiness.
Burns extremely fast, and contains lots of chunks of unbroken flakes, but it is so easy to keep lit. I can feel when it needs a tamp, or the ash dumping, or a pipe cleaner in the stem, and for this reason it is my favourite for taking outside to smoke - pretty much hassle free, strong enough on windy days and nearly lights itself!
The first time I tasted it I remember saying to myself how "savoury" it tasted, and I had never tried a blend like it. I was expecting something sweeter. However as time has passed I feel it does have an almost sickly-sweet taste at times which is indescribable. Definitely unique and very pleasant.
Nicotine hits fast and hard from around middle of the bowl, but I often get an ultimate/nirvana smoke from HB, and I attribute that to the nicotine content, very relaxing and satisfying.
In my opinion, it is best smoked in a corn cob, I have a Great Dane pretty much dedicated to it. Charred rim, tanned in color, stem a little too loose after much abuse, but for me Haunted Bookshop and my favourite corn cob pipe are two of my very best friends....Read More

I can't understand how so many people hate this blend; the only thing I can imagine is that they're smoking it too fast or in big gulping puffs (which many people do, especially those who use filters).
When I first got this blend, I didn't even know how to pack my pipe correctly. I was packing too tight which caused the smoke to be steamy, incredibly bitey, and ruined the flavor of this delicate blend.
When I see reviews that say "all I taste is cigarettes and ashtray", I realize that is all I tasted when I was packing and smoking this tobacco wrong.
I've since learned how to properly pack this blend; gravity and some taps on the bowl is all you need. Use a gentle yet frequent sipping cadence (small sips) to coax the flavor out of this blend. Big puffs are just going to leave you tasting black pepper and ashes.
When smoked properly this stuff is nutty peppery bliss, with just enough VA to round out the edges and add a slight bready note here and there. The flavor of this blend will get stuck in your nose and have you thinking about it right up until the next bowl.
If you like burley, this one's a no brainer.
If you tried it and hated it, try it again more gently, and perhaps without a filter.
If you're new or nicotine sensitive eat and take it slow 👍

Alright, fellow bookworms and pipe puffers, your friendly Tobacco Tadpole here finally met Cornell & Diehl’s Haunted Bookshop — my very first burley. I picked it because the tin art looked cool, the name screamed Christopher Morley’s classic novel, and I figured why not haunt a bookstore?
This blend’s got real character, like an old bookshop ghost that’s been around for decades. It’s bold, round, and rich with that deep burley nuttiness, a solid nicotine punch, and just enough Perique to keep things interesting. It feels like it’s got roots — no kitschy new kid on the block, this one’s paying proper homage to the traditionalists.
As Roger Mifflin would say, this shop is haunted by the ghosts of all great literature… and now my evenings are haunted by this blend. Perfect after-dinner smoke when you want something with substance.
This one’s officially my barometer for all future burley adventures. I’m in a full-blown love affair with the genre already.
