for me. This was surprising since I’m definitely a Burleyophile and a Runowski fan. It’s worth a try for sure, but I have to say I’d trade what I have left for something else, given the chance. baccos that I indulge in regularly such as Dunhill and SG. The low rating of this tobacco is likely due to the style I gravitate towards, and not so much a poor quality of Old Joe Krantz. I wanted to appreciate it, and tried several methods on separate occasions. My mouth felt as though I had gargled with sawdust. The flavour reminded me of 2nd hand cigarette smoke. Noticeable reds right off the bat just enough to linger in the background, subtle sweetness. I’d say the Perique is about 30% as the retrohale is there but not bad, good!! Burley in this that really provides a nice nicotine hit. Repeat buy for me.

Lovers of “cigar tobacco” pipe tobacco will delight in this blend, probably even more than they will in Briarworks’ Country Lawyer. It’s right there in the pure tobacco tin note: not a pleasant one, but unadulterated and without frills.
But if you’re also a burley lover, once you light up your first bowl of OJK, you’ll be transported to the lower reaches of heaven amidst an aria of dark burley, some help via sweet red Virginias in the background, and with a decent seasoning of spicy perique, as you rise on a thick cloud of nicotine.
For the record, Peterson’s Irish Flake and MacBaren’s HH Rustica are two of my top favorite blends, if that tells you anything. Unlike those, OJK’s ribbon form is easy to pack and light, and while less complex, it’s easier to pack and puff.
For those who, like me, lean towards burley over Virginia, English, or aro blends, and don’t mind a generous dash of perique, Old Joe Krantz just might become a staple of your cellar. 4.5 stars. Read Less

enced. i agree with some of the other reviews on here, OJK smells like a quality cigar, but the experience is so much more than that. It was incredibly slow burning when compared to many other tobaccos, and It was incredibly cool burning as well. No matter how hard I puffed on my pipe, I didn't get even a hint of tongue bite, I can say that about maybe 1 or 2 other blends I've tried. I inhale deeply the smells of Burley and perique. If you enjoy blends heavy on Burley and perique you should like old Joe Krantz. The Virginia definitely adds something and helps balance, but the primary contributors are the Burley/perique. As a result, the taste might not be preferable to some, but as a lover of most tobacco's, i found I enjoy it quite a bit. There's definitely a quality cigar/cigarette flavor, but it's much more than that thanks to the perique, which gives you a nice kick in the nostrils and head the deeper you go. I never leave my pipe unsatisfied with this one. Nicotine content is on the higher end. You can relight this one, but after the second or third time coming back it may be harsh for some. I'll stop rambling now. Hard to explain why I enjoy this one but I know it will be my companion when I want something more than Elizabethan or different than Sunday picnic. Read Less

ully blended. Pretty good nicotine hit about half way down. A nice dry smoke with some muscle. Is at its best sipped in a pretty ordinary size bowl. Could bite if pushed. My usual freshly opened tin approach to trying it out. Very likable blend and defies comparison to other Burley blends I’ve tried. I’ll probably update my review as I progress through the tin but for a fresh start up, I like it. Good nose tingle too.

This tobacco tastes good. I really can't say anything bad about it. But it just doesn't hold my interest. I start feeling a little bored by the end of the bowl. But really, you should give it a try.

Outstanding backwoods mixture.
If you like Cuban Partagas / Ramon Allones, this is your blend during pipe smoking.
Very rustic, although you should be able to catch the "peerless" natural flavour and aroma.

This has got to be the best Burley, Virginia and Perique blend I've ever tried that isn't a flake. Smooth and satisfying,deep dark fruit and chocolate covered raisn flavour.
Get some and store it up in mason jars. This is an amazing blend.
