I have smoked Old Joe Krantz regular for some time but had to lay off lately because the nicotine kick has become too much for my aging bones. OJK blue label is a nice tone down with out losing the deep velvety satisfying burley taste.

bought about four ounces in bulk after reading some reviews of it and I have a deep respect for Jeremy Reeves as a blender, so I gave it a shot.
I have been enjoying this daily for about two weeks now. When I put my nose in the bag, I was a little disappointed at first, as it reminded me of fermented pencil shavings. Now I just love the stuff.
Burley in the forefront and throughout the smoke, the Virginias are included to dull the edges of a straight Burley blend. To my taste, I get a lot of nutty, earthiness in the smoke and a hint of cocoa. This is one of the better Virginia/Burleys out there and certainly is satisfying in the nicotine department. Want something complex with an ever-changing flavor while smoking? Well, you’ll have to look elsewhere for that. If you enjoy Burleys, however, this may be for you. I am looking forward to trying it with a few months age on it, so I’ll have to buy more soon. Highly recommended. Read Less

It’s like OJK, but not as harsh; it’s like Haunted Bookshop but not as sweet. For me, this is pretty ideal. Reminds me a bit of a less complex, more all-day, version of G.L. Pease’ Penny Farthing (one of my favorites) too.

This stuff is the real deal. A mature smoker will really appreciate and fall in love. Warning to rookies. If your new to nicotine this may have to wait. Joe packs a pleasant right hook that can leave you a bit light headed.

e. Several weeks later, after it sat in a tightly closed tin, it’s even better. I think I’m a long term fan of this one. The subtle sweetness takes hold about mid bowl and persists until the end. Strength remains about the same. It’s at its best smoked slowly although no bite was detected. In an average bowl shape and size, it may need one relight. Overall, a good, tasty, easy smoke. match blends and applaud those efforts but they’re all off the mark enough that they just weren’t what I wanted. So…Old Joe Krantz Blue is gonna be my new PA. It’s excellent taste profile, burning characteristics and all the rest are about right and it comes packaged in a very convenient reusable tin that I can stash in my ever present traveling pipe bag. I’ve reviewed it before and haven’t indulged myself again until recently. I have a renewed respect for it. This blend is a classic example of less being more. It’s a simple blend of fairly common tobaccos that are presented in an easy to handle form. It doesn’t ghost my pipes or get bad remarks from those standing nearby. It’s readily available by one of Americas best blenders and reasonably priced. I can find nothing but good to say about it. Having ended my romance with PA it looks as if this will be the next up as a reliably excellent go to for the future. There are four blends in the series and they’re all good but Blue is my personal first choice. With a name like Old Joe Krantz, it’s gotta be good. Read Less
