The Cumbria-based company prioritizes natural tobacco flavor, and in many of their mixtures, Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. maintains the standards enforced by the United Kingdom's strict purity laws of the 19th and 20th centuries — such laws dictating how much and what type of flavorings could be added to pipe tobacco and ensuring that sub-quality leaf wasn't hidden under the veil of exorbitant toppings.

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s Caribbean Coconut is an aromatic blend of bright Virginia and Burley mixed with fermented Black Cavendish and topped with coconut and caramel.

Just received the above pipe tobacco and looking forward to smelling and tasting coconut flavor tobacco. After smoking a bowl, what a disappointment. Could not smell or taste any coconut flavoring in this blend of pipe tobacco.

I remember being in the military, in training during the spring of 1969. There was a French guy who was smoking a pipe and we all enjoyed the smell of coconut when he smoked his pipe in a large tent we were sleeping in. I also had a pipe and I borrowed pipe tobacco from him. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste and smell of coconut, it was a real treat. The pipe tobacco was called something like "South Seas" or "South Pacific" and to this date, I have been unable to find it, been looking for more than 30 years. This Gawith Caribbean C was a big disappointment, no taste or smell of coconut. It is just ok with a sweet type of taste. I had never tried this but had been waiting for a few months until it was restocked recently. I decided to live dangerously and buy 2lbs of this tobacco. I am glad I did! This tobacco burns cool, smells great, and the taste is amazing. Highly recommend. Worth the wait!

Coconut is very subtle, otherwise it's a nice tobacco. It's missing Gawith's usual Lakeland which I'm sure someone is happy about! A top tier quality tobacco. Not a shag cut though, not sure why it says it is.
