l over. I grabbed a favorite Savinelli Spring 614 and loaded up using conventional packing technique and lit up…a charring light that I let die before a light swirling tamp and relight. I spent over an hour smoking it to the bottom and relit several times as I didn’t feel like hurrying through this delicious Burley blend. I concluded that I’d hit on the right combination and enjoyed several relights, each tastier than the last. I’ve been trying to find something that beat some old favorites like PA of which there are no substitutes…I’ve been a pipe smoker for over 50 years and have smoked more different blends than I can recall but always lean towards Burleys as I enjoy the depth of flavor and ease of smoking them…if you do it right, they don’t bite thus, Take your time…Pegasus showcases Runowskis knowledge of building a good blend and how to smoke it for best effect. A rich flavorful taste with depth and jus the right strength to satisfy. At 78 I suppose I’m a true codger but good Burley blends are good smoking and worth your time so Take your time and enjoy this one....Read More

Simple with a nice rounded mouthfeel from the black cavendish. A little sweet from the Virginia. Burley adds a nice mushroom note. I feel with a smidge of perique this blend would elevate. But that’s just my taste.

lack cup of percolated coffee sitting beside him. It has that kind of old-school Americana character.
There’s a faint sweetness that develops down the bowl, occasionally reminding me of bittersweet chocolate chips. Overall, though, Pegasus is remarkably consistent — and fairly one-dimensional — from beginning to end. At times I get a flavor that reminds me of C&D’s Briar Fox, which I assume comes from the Burley component. The difference is that Pegasus is considerably more pleasant to my palate. Briar Fox struck me as terribly flat and boring, whereas Pegasus at least has some character.
Bob Runowski’s review/explanation recommended smoking this in a deep, narrow bowl, so I loaded it into a Lovat with a relatively taller bowl. It behaved nicely enough and smoked without any real issues.
Runowski also said he was attempting to recreate something reminiscent of “Bond Street” with Pegasus. Bond Street isn’t a blend I’ve ever tried, so unfortunately I have no frame of reference for how successful that recreation or reinterpretation is. All I can say is that Pegasus definitely tastes like something good from another era....Read More
