About This Pipe Tobacco

Arguably the most famous of Louisiana's antebellum mansions, and certainly the most immediately recognizable, Oak Alley is a splendid namesake for this cellar worthy, American standard from Cornell and Diehl. After establishing an impeccable partnership between sweet red Virginias and white/brown Burleys, discreet amounts of Perique and Katerini Turkish are added to enhance both the flavor, as well as promote the coolest smoke imaginable.

One of my top blends
June 05, 2026
Product: Cornell & Diehl Oak Alley 2oz
Just tried this for the first time recently and its a great blend. I know this says cellar series because of the Burley and the cake form but its good right out of the tin. For me this was Burley forward with the Orientals and red Virginias in the background. It reminds me a little of Eight state Burley without the topping on ESB. Considering rubbing out the cake to speed up the aging process but it is already a good blend....Read More
Cellaring Blues

Product: Cornell & Diehl Oak Alley 2oz
I titled my review “Cellaring Blues” due to the melancholy feeling I get when I look at the dates on my cellared tins of the C&D Cellar Series. However, I decided 4 years was a good place to start trying Oak Alley. Fortunately, I purchased several tins early on, so I have a couple of more tins that I left to age. This tobacco was not my favorite when I tried it fresh. Not sure what it was, just didn’t care for it, maybe it was the harshness coming from fresh burley. True to its name, it needs to rest a bit. Now, 4 years later I am impressed with the metamorphosis. I think the biggest change at this point is the smoothness that time has imparted on Oak Alley. I smoked it in a Peterson Arklow 124 with a .70 chamber, great little pipe. This particular 124 is a pipe that I consider a favorite, especially for the price. Anyway, I digress. The perique and Virginia’s seemed to come to the forefront at this age for the Oak Alley. I plan to purchase some more of this blend and put it down for a little nap. I also plan to come back and visit/edit this review over time. I hope there will be higher marks for this blend in my future....Read More
Complex Mixture -- Spicy & Somewhat Bold
April 02, 2026
Product: Cornell & Diehl Oak Alley 2oz
This is a very interesting blend, almost fascinating. A quick favorite. The base of Virginias and Burleys displays good proportions with the sweeter Virginias being a bit more dominant, but the taste of the Burleys is by no means impeded. Although described as discreet amounts, both the Perique and the Katerini are quite obvious standouts. This is a true mixture meaning that the different tobaccos exhibit their own personalities and flavors at different points in the smoke. In other words, the taste wanders and meanders--each puff can vary from the last. There is something to be said for consistency, but I enjoy blends and mixtures that change character as they're smoked. I detect a distinct spicy and tangy fruitiness on the tongue and in the aftertaste that might represent a light fruit topping, but it may be nothing more than the interaction between the Perique and the Katerini. I will say that this sensation of sugar and spice seems to dissipate slightly as I make my way through the tin.
This is a highly worthwhile mixture that deserves a 5-6 out of 10 for strength and a 6-7 out of 10 for flavor and taste. The aroma of the smoke is a bit less than savory--not unpleasant perhaps--just a little pungent. The nicotine content is fairly potent, but not substantial. This could be a regular smoke for some, however, I suggest that Oak Alley may prove to be at its best as a change-of-pace.

But I’ll try. In the mean time, it’s still very good.
Coolest smoke

What a blend. Probably my top to be honest. The kake pulls apart and breaks down with no effort. It takes a light with no issue, burns slow and leaves an ash of fine snow. The taste is floral, bold, but never waivers on smoothness. Whether I am around the fire pit, in the car on the way to work, or having a late night puff for a nightcap, this blend is on point everytime. It never falls short of exquisite....Read More
