About This Pipe Tobacco

Founded in 1841, Drucquer & Sons was a famed London tobacco shop that relocated to Berkeley, California, in 1928. The shop was more than just a tobacconist though; it was a community. It was where some of the greatest tobacco-blenders in recent memory — like Charl Ehwa of McClelland and Gregory Pease of G.L. Pease — first plunged their hands into flagrant tobacco. The historic shop may be gone, but its rich history and brand of pipe tobaccos continues, reformulated from their original recipes by Gregory Pease (and made by Cornell & Diehl) for the modern smoker.

The fullest of Drucquer & Sons' pipe tobaccos, Levant Mixture is a rich, luxurious, and aptly named Balkan blend, comprising generous portions of Latakia and Orientals with Red Virginias for a subtle sweetness. It's a blend of eminent distinction.

Just got into smoking maybe 6 months ago and I’ve only had maybe 15-20 different English blends, this isn’t like any other one I’ve had. First off, The smoke damn near has viscosity. It’s thick, pillowy, creamy, and dare I say sensual? The taste is divine. I have a hard time picking out a lot of nuance and instead consistently taste the blend as a whole. It’s the weirdest part about the blend. Most English I’ve had I can isolate a lot of the tobaccos. Not this one. It’s a fully combined smoke. You get all the nuances of each tobacco balled up into one glorious note that hangs and lingers. The retrohale is something else too. Almost like motor oil flowers. I love it.
I feel like a lot of English blends fist fight over which tobacco should be driving the bus, meanwhile the Levant cruises alongside the bus in a Bentley, waves, and vrooms off into the sunset. Get this tobacco. It’s an experience....Read More

I love this mixture. A great oriental mix. Complex, rich, oily mouthfeel (which I love). This was so good to taste. Has a strong smoke that my sister didn't particularly appreciate, but I love it. I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys a nice, long smoke on a cool evening.

I remember the 1st time I tried D&S Levant Mixture... my 1st impression was that I needed to chew the smoke, it's that full bodied and that delicious and beyond what I thought the ideal English Blend could be . For me it's English Blends and I've tried quite a few in 25 years.
Levant Mixture is the finest pipe tobacco you can get these days. As much as I loved Bengal Slices, Levant Mixture is just as good and in some ways better. It's hard to believe 200g isn't 2xs what you pay here, for how wonderful it is....Read More

I did a review of Blairgowrie and while it was an excellent smoke, it was a little too balanced and though pleasurable, didn’t really call out to me. It was pleasant enough though to look for other blends and I happened across this one. This one is outstanding. This one is full of flavor and has a little bit of everything in abundance. It’s got some sweetness to it, plenty of smokiness, tartness and fruity/floral background notes. It’s got a wonderful smoky creaminess on the retrohale. A full flavored smoke I could enjoy this all day and it’s in my top 3 daily smokes now. I purchased a few tins and look forward to seeing how it ages. This is the perfect tobacco for those NOT seeking a mild or mellow smoke but wanting a full out flavor fest in every bowl. The initial experience took me by surprise, but this is now a must have for my rotation. Drucquer & Sons strikes once again. It really reminds me of Palmetto Balkan with how well the latakia and orientals play balanced roles in this smokey play. Well done, Mr. Pease.
