Drucquer & Sons: Levant Mixture 200g Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-756-0014

Founded in 1841, Drucquer & Sons was a famed London tobacco shop that relocated to Berkeley, California, in 1928. The shop was more than just a tobacconist though; it was a community. It was where some of the greatest tobacco-blenders in recent memory — like Charl Ehwa of McClelland and Gregory Pease of G.L. Pease — first plunged their hands into flagrant tobacco. The historic shop may be gone, but its rich history and brand of pipe tobaccos continues, reformulated from their original recipes by Gregory Pease (and made by Cornell & Diehl) for the modern smoker.

The fullest of Drucquer & Sons' pipe tobaccos, Levant Mixture is a rich, luxurious, and aptly named Balkan blend, comprising generous portions of Latakia and Orientals with Red Virginias for a subtle sweetness. It's a blend of eminent distinction.

Rustic Powerhouse

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 200g
Very good, very exemplary Balkan. Each note in the chord is well pronounced, yet none drowns out any other, working together in harmony and complementarity. On the whole, the blend is excellent while also very rustic, very rough around the edges. Whereas something like the Casbah is sleek and smooth, this one is very rough. If Casbah is a newly polished Cadillac, this one is your dad's old 4x4, covered in mud, rust holes through all the floorboards -- there's no substitute for it when you need to tow something heavy and dirty, but you wouldn't drive it to pick up a girl on a first date. Each one has its role, each one gets the job done, but they do very different things....Read More

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 100g
I let the first tin age for 2 years before opening. I still have one more on the shelf. I was expecting a pleasant smoke but that was an understatement. Smooth burning, rich taste, virtually no tongue bite, and a mellow but not over powering room note. Taste is gentle and mellow. This would pair wonderfully with cognac and a nice fireplace....Read More
good to go.

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 100g
Tin note of smoky and mildly sweet. Tobacco is a black, tan and brown ribbon cut. Moisture content is great. Burns moderately with few relights. The strength is medium to strong and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is full and consistent, with notes of smoky, floral, wood, dry earth, herbal, lemon grass, leather, spices, citrus peel/zest, peaty, strong incense, fermented vinegary fruit, spicy/acidic, a musty sour vegetation background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Oriental/Turkish and Virginia supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 100g
This blend is what i call a melange’. No one tobacco stands out yet you would miss them if absent. For those that are interested, SPC ranier levant is supposed to be a sister blend but I found that blend a bit bland. This version is very rich in flavor while being smooth with good manners in the bowl. Power is a tic under medium, no rough edges, minimum number of relights ending in a nice dry ash at the end. Recommend to all Enthusiasts and newcomers ready to find a new favorite blend....Read More
Medium Body Tongue Tickler

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 100g
In my opinion it's not as strong as other Balkans. It comes across to me as a medium strength. The tin I received was relatively moist upon opening. The more it dries, the more the Orientals come through with some tongue tickling spiciness. Altogether pleasant.

I haven’t smoked a wide variety of tobaccos. There are a few Va/Per’s I like and a few English. This tobacco was so different to me. At first I wondered if I’d like it. Then I settled in to a few bowls and found a delicate, creamy like, earthy, mushroom taste. That’s the only way I can describe it. It is wonderful and unique. Truly an exquisite tobacco....Read More
Medium Sipping Time

Product: Drucquer & Sons Levant Mixture 100g
Strong in flavor, and very complex. After the cherry dropped, the smoothness came out perfectly. I used a large bowl antler rimmed Castello. Small to medium sips work best for my snorkeling style and cadence. Easier to enjoy the complexity without nose sting. Very rich and luxurious mix. Pleasant nicotine buzz. Relaxing type of tobacco for my taste. The Blairgowrie is easier to have robust snorkeling, but this one is so tasty, you want more. I love these Drucquer tobacco's, they really do a splendid job. Gave a pipe pal a 200gr tin, and he said, "delicious." After several bowls, this mixture grows on you. I keep dipping into the humidor, alot....Read More

It's strong. I'm not quite sure what to say about this one. Definitely pairs well with black coffee early in the AM.
