S. Bang Smooth Bent Dublin (UN) (51) (2019) (Unsmoked) Tobacco Pipe

Quite a structured and architectural piece from S. Bang, this bent Dublin is a stout, meaty pipe with its large shank and bowl trailed by a discreet saddle stem to keep attention focused on the stummel. Danish cheeking is taken to an extreme here, with the bowl visually seeming to be a separate element because of the cheeking lines at the transition below the bowl. The underside of the shank has been flattened, allowing the piece to sit stably. Crafted by Ulf Noltensmeier, the rim of this piece is particularly interesting, scalloped concavely on the shank axis and convexly in silhouette, and all with darkly stained plateau proudly displayed. The contrast stain is classic S. Bang, the gold standard of pipe making.
