About This Pipe
David Iafisco draws on a wide array of creative influences, including Teddy Knudsen, Claudio Cavicchi, Jeff Gracik, and Adam Davidson. Reflecting these inspirations, his portfolio spans an equally diverse range of shapes—from Freehand-inspired designs to more traditional shape-chart standards. Regardless of form, Iafisco's creativity consistently shines through, with his distinctive eye for stunning finishes and keen sense of proportionality often taking center stage.
This Tomato exemplifies Iafisco's approach while representing the more traditional end of his shaping spectrum. Up front, a broad, full-bodied bowl provides a comfortable grip, its tapered, Brandy-like frame offering pleasing in-hand curvature. A vaulted shank-and-stem combination promotes an easy, ergonomic smoking posture, with the shank extended by two knuckles of dark, earthy bamboo, echoed by the shoulders of the saddle stem. A crisp, dark sandblast dresses the piece, revealing concentric growth rings around the bowl and adding texture and definition to an otherwise fluid design.
