About This Pipe
Like many artisan carvers, Henri Sørensen came to pipe making through a deep appreciation for the craft of pipe smoking, a passion he shared with his brother. Before working with briar, Sørensen was a glazier — a trade that instilled in him a respect for traditional, hands-on craftsmanship and careful attention to detail. It was only a matter of time before he began shaping pipes of his own. Drawing from Denmark's rich pipe-making heritage, he honors the Danish masters while cultivating an aesthetic that is distinctly his own.
This bent Dublin is a rakish interpretation of the classic form, defined by a crisp angularity and check mark-like silhouette. A sharply bent shank-and-stem arrangement lends support to a forward-canted bowl, whose thick walls rise from a pointed heel to a broad, sloping rim. The rim itself is left smooth and subtly sweeps toward the shank and stem, visually tying the composition together. The remainder of the stummel is dressed in a scale-like rustication, lending rich tactile character and ample grip to the composition.
