About This Pipe
Boasting over 30 years of experience and a diverse portfolio, Konstantin Shekita is one of Ukraine's first artisan pipe makers. Shekita entered the world of pipes by first polishing mouthpieces at the Golden Gate pipe factory in Kiev. He quickly climbed the ranks, learning tricks of the trade and working as an independent carver alongside his job at the factory. Over the years, the artisan has amassed a portfolio encompassing a broad range of styles — everything from shape-chart classics to sculptural Freehands. This Billiard hews closer to the former category, although it still exudes Shekita's unique style.
The bowl is subtly plump, its walls bowing ever so subtly as they rise from the muscular heel to the crisp, smooth rim. The thick, insulating walls offer plenty of comfort in hand, and the concise shank-and-stem arrangement keeps things compact, allowing this pipe to be easily tucked away for travel. Save for the smooth rim, the stummel wears a rich chestnut sandblast, which reveals the fine details of the briar's handsome grain while still preserving the integrity of the pipe's general silhouette. A horn mount introduces some variation to the pipe's palette, while still keeping things neutral, cohesive, and highly elegant, especially in conjunction with the traditional jet-black stem. For the smoker seeking a nuanced, compact take on the classic Billiard, this handsome offering is sure to please.
