Based in Oppido Lucano in southern Italy's Basilicata region, Antonio Lancellotti is an artisan pipe maker whose work balances clean, flowing lines with a strong sense of proportion. Although he first experimented with shaping briar during the 2020 lockdown, he began making pipes in earnest after purchasing his first lathe in 2021. Largely self-taught, Lancellotti has refined his craft through years of study and collaboration with fellow artisans, including Davide Iafisco, Angelo Del Prete, and Cornelius Mänz, whose advice continues to influence his approach.
Most of Lancellotti's portfolio consists of freehand designs, with each pipe shaped to complement the individual briar block rather than follow a rigid plan. He favors high-quality Italian briar paired with hand-cut German ebonite stems, occasionally incorporating horn, boxwood, or Elforyn as understated accents. Music is also an important part of his creative process, with everything from jazz to metal helping shape the mood and character of a pipe as it nears completion. His pipes are defined by thoughtful shaping, careful craftsmanship, and an understated Italian aesthetic.
Antonio Lancellotti has already developed a distinctive style rooted in patience, adaptability, and a constant drive to improve. His work reflects both a respect for traditional craftsmanship and an eagerness to let each piece of briar determine the final result.
