About This Pipe
With roots tracing back to 1947 and decades of pipe-making innovation under their belt, Castello is one of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today. At the time of Castello's founding, the status quo for pipe making was quantity over quality, but the marque flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. Today, Castello remains committed to these same principles, and there is perhaps no better testament to their commitment than this astonishing Pipa Velata bent Dublin.
Pipa Velata translates to "Veiled Pipe" in English and, when beholding this impeccably carved offering, it's easy to see how it earned that name. It takes an immense amount of skill to give a solid material such as briar the fluid, effortlessly draped look of fabric, yet the artisans at Castello have achieved this feat, having simultaneously brought out the best from this block of briar while also transforming it entirely. The draped "folds" envelop the form nicely, their rippling lines drawing the eye through the composition in a mesmerizing fashion. This unique texture is not only arresting in appearance, it's also quite stimulating in hand, providing plenty of tactile intrigue to appreciate while enjoying a long, luxurious smoke from the deep-chambered bowl. A glossy-smooth, auburn finish dresses the stummel's flowing, fabric-like form, highlighting tendrils of flame grain and curlicues of birdseye for even more visual intrigue. Serialized 5/10, this piece belongs to an incredibly limited collection, imbuing it with even more allure on top of its breathtaking appearance.
