About This Pipe
Carlo Scotti brought the Castello brand to life in the late 1940s, crafting his pipes in the same shadow of the Alps as the likes of Savinelli and the Rovera family. Scotti's workshop would eventually yield the independent workshops of Caminetto and Radice, both founded by former Castello artisans, but the Castello tradition continues today with the neoclassic designs that make northern Italy such an influential player in the industry of pipe making.
This bent Pot from Castello is tightly dressed in flame grain around the bowl and the sides of the shank, but the most curious part of this pipe is the pointed yet also rounded heel that allows the bowl a slope almost like a Brandy. The relatively stout walls that give this pipe Pot status are still there, however, as the bowl reaches a depth of only a shade over one and one-quarter inches. The stummel is stained a dark walnut hue, and the black acrylic stem is bent lightly downward to complete the arc of the underside. No accent is needed to complement the elegance of this pipe, a fine work of Italian craftsmanship that is a must-have in any collection of Castellos.
