About This Pipe
Carlo Scotti brought the Castello brand to life in the late 1940s, crafting his pipes in the same shadow of the Alps as the likes of Savinelli and the Rovera family. Scotti's workshop would eventually yield the independent workshops of Caminetto and Radice, both founded by former Castello artisans, but the Castello tradition continues today with the neoclassic designs that make northern Italy such an influential player in the industry of pipe making.
The combination of ovoid shank and black acrylic stem backing this bent Billiard from Castello stretches back from the bowl in a recognizably broad, gradual arc, giving this piece a remarkable profile. The bowl is straight-walled even for a Billiard and topped with short, dark plateau that finishes it with a touch of naturalism, and the entire stummel is stained a rich walnut hue and finished smoothly to allow easy observation of the handsome, swirling grain. This rendition of the most classic of pipe shapes puts the imagination of Castello's artisans on grand display with its impressive linework and fine shaping.
