From what started as a simple hobby of making duck calls from bamboo, Jason Mouton gained experience in woodworking that would eventually help shape his pipe-making career. Based in Gueydan, Louisiana, Jason Mouton boasts a shaping style driven by his keen eye for detail and a passion for studying various artisan works. This Volcano is a strong showcase of Mouton's work and a distinctive interpretation of the shape. The bowl displays the form's characteristic languid taper, with a crisp ridgeline marking the heel and a slanted base that emphasizes the overall flow of the bowl. The shank flares in harmony with the bowl's taper, terminating in an asymmetrical shank face that pairs with a sleek vulcanite saddle stem. The profile is subtly pinched, which helps the running ridgeline along one side stand out even more in silhouette. The stummel is sandblasted to bring out tightly stacked growth rings across the bowl, while the shank face and rim are left smooth for a touch of contrast.
