Sandblasted Lovat with Bakelite (1719) Tobacco Pipe

The Lovat is my favorite shape, and this is the first Lovat we've received from Jared Coles. I know because I've been watching. It's a big one, too: 6.7 inches. The tall, muscular bowl rises sharply from the reduced-diameter shank with a transition that maintains the cheekiness of the flanks and the curvature of the bowl. The sandblast is low profile and a tactile pleasure in the hand, with rising stacks of grain ascending the sides all around. All that is terminated at the stem with a Bakelite mouthpiece of short length and high quality. Jared's Danish influence is easy to identify in the lines of this piece, especially the rim, with its rounded, smooth aesthetic. Firm in hand, with a size that is easy to grasp and a deep chamber, and with a long almost delicate shank to further emphasize the bowl, this pipe reflects both tradition and creativity in a package that combines for a smoking instrument of the highest order.
